Historical Metallurgy 1870–1920

Download

This file is the online supplement to Pollard A.M. (2020).

The excel file contains transcribed chemical data on archaeological bronzes published between 1870 and 1920, taken from 74 publications, and representing many thousand analyses. The word table lists papers of relevance to the study of mining and scientific analyses of archaeological bronzes published between 1870 and 1920 (the date 1920 was taken for the end of this phase because it marks the inception of the use of optical emission spectroscopy for the study of archaeological bronzes rather than traditional gravimetric analysis). It is not a comprehensive collection of the material available, so please consult the bibliography for a more complete list of publications. Additional data and references will be published on this page as supplements to this file.

Please check with the original publications before quoting any data from it. Many later authors re-published earlier data, with varying degrees of accuracy, and these have been cross-checked where possible.
